In gleich zwei Klassen konnte sich der Österreicher Hupo Hönigl beim Grand Prix of Russia 2014 einen Platz ganz oben auf dem Podium sichern. Der Grand Prix in Moskau gilt mit knapp 250 Starterinnen und Startern aus Russland, Europa und Asien als das größte RC Offroad Indoor-Event in Russland.
Die Indoor-Rennstrecke in der Crocus Expo bestand komplett aus Teppichboden und war mit zahlreichen Rampen und Hindernissen aus Holz bestückt. Vom 11. bis zum 13. April 2014 fand das Rennen im Rahmen der Modellbaumesse Moscow Hobby Expo statt.
Für jede Klasse gab es nur einen zweiminütigen Trainingslauf, was sich für Hupo als besonders schwierig gestaltete, da es die ersten Runden überhaupt mit seinem brandneuen TeamC T8E Buggy waren. Dennoch konnte er als Top Qualifier an den Start gehen und das Rennen in der Klasse 1:8 Elektro-Buggy für sich entscheiden.
Einfacher ging es für Hupo in der Klasse 2WD Modified mit seinem Team C TM2 V2 Mittelmotor-Buggy voran. Auch hier konnte er als Top Qualifier und Gesamtsieger vor Shin Adachi (Yokomo/Japan) und Jörg Tiit (Serpent/Estland) das Rennen erfolgreich beenden.
The Grand Prix of Russia 2014 was held at the huge Crocus Expo Facility in Moscow. With almost 250 entries a very well organized event. One of the ones we need more of, because it was part of a hobby show with thousands of hobbyists and spectators. The track was a typical European carpet track with wooden jumps and obstacles. We only had one 2min practise run per class which made it difficult, specially because this were the first meters i ever did with my TeamC T8E – luckily it was really good from the beginning and i could TQ and win. As expected my TM2 V2 was again rocket fast around the carpet track and i also could TQ and win with it. A huge thanks to Dmitry Malyshko and the whole Timoshchenko family for their amazing hospitality and also their formidable effort they put in this event and also in the russian rc scene!
